Hi, I’m Cat.
I’m a self taught linocut printmaker, based in Orkney but hailing from the hills of Northumberland.
You will find me, sketchbook in hand, perching on the shoreline, amongst the rocks, in a field or up a hill, capturing what I love about the landscape: the look and the feel of the place, the undulations of the hills, the understanding which can only come from long hours of observation, and a deep sense of belonging.
Most of my work is based on the world around me, though I have been known to stray into folklore. I’m a keen storyteller (and listener) and this makes its way into all of my prints: from capturing the feeling of the wind through a series of undulating lines, to making marks to recreate the sense of lightness as you emerge from a forest into the open air.
For me, printmaking is an ongoing discussion between the immediacy of an image, and the way it is expressed through line, marks, colour and composition. I am always learning, always surprising myself, and in love with the whole great big adventure of it all.
I hope you enjoy it too.
