Washing Day
Washing Day
A print from my May 2019 trip to the Outer Hebrides, Washing Day was inspired not only by the superb range of washing lines visible across the landscape in this part of the world, but also by an encounter with a woman in a sari hanging out her laundry at almost the most northerly tip of the Isle of Lewis. The juxtaposition - so unexpected and charming - between East and West, North and South is what I wanted to capture. I would love to go back and ask her how she came to find herself on Lewis in the first place; I bet she’s got an amazing adventure story to share.
Washing Day is printed using oil based ink on Japanese Hosho paper. It is one of an edition of nine.
The printed area is approx 15cm x 20cm and the paper size is a little larger than A3
The print is sold unmounted and unframed, and will be posted rolled in a sturdy postal tube.
A mounted and framed copy can be purchased through Robinson-Gay Art Gallery in Hexham, Northumberland
